Hunting in South AfricaIf you are interested in hunting, you can combine the family vacation with one or two hunting days.

During the week you participate in the many excursions, but on Saturday and/or Sunday you have the option of experiencing the uniqueness of a South African hunt. And at very favorable prices!

Whether you have hunted in Africa before or not, or if you are already an experienced Safari-hunter, a hunt from Mpala will give you a magnificent hunting experience.

You may choose to ”only” shoot an impala (which in our opinion is one of the most beautiful trophies), or you may choose to go for a particular species of wildlife that demands a bit more room on the wall, such as kudu, wildebeest, zebra, sable antelope, buffalo and many more.

Apart from a small day fee for the hunt you only pay for what you shoot.

In other words, there is not a ‘pre payment’ for trophys that you may or may not shoot.

We have at our disposal two hunting areas; one of 3000 hectares and one of 5000 hectares with fantastic nature and excellent hunt with many different species of game.

Overnight stay

The hunting areas are close to Mpala. Therefore, you will not need to spend the night somewhere else other than your stay with Mpala.

If you wish to have two hunting days it is possible to camp within the hunting area.

Day fee:

The day fee is 1500 Rand pr. hunter pr. day

Rifle:

If you want to save yourself the trouble of travelling with your own rifle, we recommend that you hire a rifle at Mpala. For South African hunting we recommend a 300 caliber such as 308, 30-06, 300 mag., 375 or equivalent. Please note that a shooting distance of up to 150-200 meters is common, but often the distance is shorter. At Mpala Safari Lodge you can hire the following calibers: 308 and 375, both with telescope.

Wildlife:

At Hope: impala, blue wildebeest, kudu, zebra (burchell’s), waterbuck, nyala, warthog and giraffe.

At Tinshapa: cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, caracal, impala, blue wildebeest, kudu, zebra (burchell’s), waterbuck, warthog, bushbuck, grey duiker, steenbuck, hyaene, jackal, giraffe.

Advance reservation:

You may wait with booking your hunting until your day of arrival at Mpala, but on such short notice you may risk having the hunting area already reserved for others. We therefore recommend that you reserve well in advance.

Payment:

All payments for the hunt itself take place at Mpala Safari Lodge. You may pay in cash or use the following credit cards: Visa, Visa/DK and MasterCard. The day fee of 1500 Rand is binding with advance reservation. Trophy fees, preservation work, shipping etc is not included in Mpala’s hunting price list, but we will connect you with Life Form Taxidermy with whom you will arrange directly how you want the trophy treated and transported (see below).

Trophy treatment and conservation work:

We recommend that you have your trophy treated by the taxidermist Life-Form Taxidermy, who we consider very skilled and professional and in our experience very reliable. Life-Form Taxidermy treats trophies from all of Africa and for customers around the world.

You can read more about them on their website: lifeformtaxidermy.com

We will pre-treat the trophy on the spot (skinning, salting, etc) and deliver the trophy to the taxidermist along with your contact information. Life-Form will then contact you by email where you can agree on the price for treatment, shipping etc. Payment is done directly through Life-Form not involving Mpala.
